Nani World Cup Denmark (10/6/2011)

Sixteen women and sixteen men make up the US Team for the Trampoline Gymnastics WORLD CUP – DENMARK this weekend in Odense, and among them is Hawaii gymnast Nani Vercruyssen (19yrs Hawaii Academy & UH-KCC). This is the biggest world competition before the World Championships next month (in Birmingham, UK) and nearly every country is using this weekend as a test event to predict who is going to qualify through the world championships to get a spot for their country in the 2012 Olympic Games (in London). The pressure is on to see how everyone ranks this Friday and Saturday. Vercruyssen has spent the last two weeks in Lafayette, LA, training with her synchronized trampoline partner, and current US senior elite national champion Savannah Vinsant. The US women have their best chance at a medal in synchro with the Vercruyssen-Vinsant team (currently 18th ranked overall, 5th in their last World Cup appearance). Vercruyssen is hoping to be in the top 20 at this meet (18 men and 18 women compete in the Olympics, no more than two per country). The participating gymnasts have been practicing yesterday and today for competition that starts tomorrow and finishes on Saturday.
