RECREATION

CLASSES

Physical Education & Recreation Department (Ms Paris Macabeo Spahn, Chair; 87% of total enrollment)
Our non-competitive, recreational classes are designed to provide fun, safe, effective, and efficient instruction that promotes self-esteem for students of all ages and abilities. Preschool classes are movement education based with an emphasis on health, fitness and wellness. Our curriculum will eventually include instruction in fundamentals of the human sciences (anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology fitness, and nutrition). Instructional levels: parent-tot, preschool, beginner, intermediate, advanced for gymnastics, trampoline, tumbling, movement education, cheerleading/drill team, martial arts, homeschool physical education, and special needs classes. Our curriculum is evolving from separate programs for gymnastics, trampoline, cheer, dance, and martial arts into proficiency-based coed classes that include essentials of movement education under age 6 and physical education above age 6. In one-hour and two-hour classes, we hope to provide general proficiency training in falling, rolling, jumping, throwing, catching, climbing, running, tumbling, trampoline, gymnastics, etc. in preparation for joining three-hour competitive sport training or advanced recreation classes.
